Everything is now backup we have yet to hear from networking as to the cause of the outage.

At 10:35 PM PDT we received notification from our monitoring systems that the Titan server was not responding. Upon further investigation it appears as if there is a network issue of some kind affecting all of our Seattle location. As to the exact cause we are not entirely sure we have not as of yet heard back from networking. We had recently posted notice of a problem that needed to be corrected on the network so it may very well be related http://www.hawkhost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=531

I think I might have figured something out with this. When you click the edit button it always defaults to "US-ASCII" but when you right click on the file then select edit in that popup window it'll select the encoding type the file was saved as if it can properly detect it. Very confusing there are several popups in this system. If you made a ticket it be best to make a screen shot of it to clarify which you're talking about. Otherwise depending on the person they could test it and say yes it works. Then you'll say no it doesn't as both people selected the editor differently.

We have more support staff than ever before to deal with the growing number of customers and inquiries. We can now better handle all kinds of issues with much better response times then before no matter the time. I assume this is because you made a recent ticket and it was not resolved to your expectation? If so please provide the ticket number and I'll take a look.

As far as I know it's not possible for it to be automatically populated with a specific encoding type. It be a good feature for cPanel to have but it's not built in unless it's not well documented.

We will be migrating the accounts on the Skyline server starting on Tuesday September 8th and this will last until Sunday September 13th. The reason for this is Skyline is our last 32bit server we have in our fleet. With it being 32bit it makes it difficult to provide more upgrades in terms of memory if it were ever necessary without sacrificing other performance aspects. It also being our only 32bit machine we have to continue to maintain testing 32bit packages with deployment of features and upgrades. Rather than just using the same specification we will also make an upgrade in hardware as well. The server will be a Dual Xeon 5520 with much more memory as well as SAS hard drives opposed to SATA drives. For the migration process we will be moving accounts in sections based on IP address. We anticipate no more than 5 minutes of down time per account in order to make the switch. We migrate the account data then re-route the IP address to the new server. Thus there is no down time associated with the upgrade. The machine itself will be running the same software besides being the 64bit variations and having our tweaks for 64bit systems. So there should be no incompatibilities when switching over. Of course if you run into any issues we recommend you make a ticket as soon as possible. We only plan on keeping the old server online until the 20th of September at which point it will go off line completely. The time frame given we estimate will not be nearly this long. In the past we have migrated to other hardware without any down time in less than three days. So we anticipate up to a week of being on the new server before the old hardware will be completely removed. If you have any concerns about this migration please do not hesitate to contact us. Start Date: 09/08/2009 End Date: 09/13/2009 Estimated Down Time: less than 5 minutes Duration: 5 days

This is just notice that the Titan server will be affected by the emergency network maintenance on Monday September 7th. You can find more information about the maintenance by going to http://www.hawkhost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=530 Date: Monday, September 7, 2009 (09/07/2009) Start time: 01:00 PDT End time: 02:00 PDT Duration: 1 hour Service Affected: SEA01 Public/Private Network Reason: IOS Upgrade Device: FCR01.SEA01, BCR01.SEA01

There is going to be major network maintenance on Monday September 7th. Here is the notice we were sent: ================================================== SoftLayer Engineers have identified a potentially service impacting bug in the IOS code currently running on these routers. Due to continued debug messages and traceback errors appearing on BCR01.SEA01, Engineers have scheduled a reboot of FCR01.SEA01 and BCR01.SEA01 to upgrade to the latest IOS code. Due to the severity of this bug, the timeframe between this notice and the maintenance window has been shortened. During this maintenance, customers will notice a complete loss of connectivity to their servers on both the frontend and the backend. It is recommended to fully disconnect iSCSI and NAS drives during this maintenance window. While the upgrade duration is scheduled for 1 hour, we only expect between 15-20 minutes of downtime as the routers reload and fully boot. A notice will also be posted in the portal prior to the maintenance, during the maintenance informing you of the progress, and after with completion details. ================================================== For Hawk Host customers this will affect anyone on a server in Seattle. Date: Monday, September 7, 2009 (09/07/2009) Start time: 01:00 PDT End time: 02:00 PDT Duration: 1 hour Service Affected: SEA01 Public/Private Network Reason: IOS Upgrade Device: FCR01.SEA01, BCR01.SEA01

Sender verify is used to verify the person sending mail to you the email address exists. So their email does not exist, they have issues with their dns or some other unknown issue. They should correct this as very few mail providers do not use sender verification. You're welcome to make a support ticket so we can take a closer look.

We provide no support for it you could alias our name server IP's but we're not modifying the zones or anything of that nature to match up with what you have the name servers set as.
-
If you select a different location it'll guarantee a different server. Otherwise we cannot make promises on that.
-
Just sign up and when it asks if you're a current customer select yes and it'll ask for your client area login information.
-
The server has not crashed again so at this point it seems to be fine.
-
Yep you can pay for two accounts if you want.

PHP-Based Document Management System over SSL

Most applications there is a setting to force https that's usually the best way to handle it. I'm not familiar with the application you're using and if that's an option or not. -
We will be updating the Titan server kernel to the latest version on Tuesday August 25th at 10:00pm PDT. We estimate this will result in about 10 minutes of down time while the server reboots. Keeping kernels up to data is a necessary step in order to stay on top of performance improvements as well as have the latest security fixes. In this case there have been some security vulnerabilities which we have taken steps to mitigate but now with an official kernel released for CentOS we can run a version that is patched. We feel it's best to have this done as soon as possible which is why there is only 24 hour notice. Date: 08/26/2009 Start time (PDT): 10:00pm End time (PDT): 10:20pm Duration: 20 minutes Estimated Down Time: 10 minutes
