Blog post ideas?

We've got some interesting blog posts coming up here shortly (more technical/nerdy ones) from some of our systems engineers and developers which I'm personally looking forward to reading. Being more of an operations/customer service guy myself, my posts tend to be more in the obscure, or what our company is up to, changes we're making to the business, etc.

I figured I'd open up the floor and see if there is anything you guys would like a "behind the scenes" post about? Obviously if your ideas involve revealing trade secrets or non-public information I'd not be able to write about that, but if you have an idea let me know and I'll see what I can do! :)

Humorous anecdotes working at your company, c'mon all IT companies got some good ones! Who was the lousiest employee and what did he do, the most horrid day that you can reflect on but laugh at today, etc....which (anonymous) end user gave you the worst support call, etc...

You could talk about the most common support questions recieved, the type of software (or any software in particular) customers run that causes you guys the most headaches and why it causes problems.

The type of blog posts I really would like to see again (as I mentioned elsewhere) are the monthly reports. They used to list things that have happened that month, things being worked on and how well promotions went down for example.

Well, people who need web hosting are generally also interested in making money online, how to quickly and beautifully build a site / application, sort of stuff...if you can build a resource library in this regard I think it'd be a nice complement. We would benefit from it, and you will benefit from it as well cause' people who are interested in these are also interested in web hosting.

This is tricky because if we can write them as a blog post then they belong in our knowledgebase over our blog. I know for example a user recently had problems with building ruby gems after they had their username changed. It turned out the issue was with their .gemrc file in their home directory referencing the wrong path. This issue isn't well documented on the internet but if it's part of our KB when a user opens a ticket they'd see it opposed to finding some obscure blog post.

They might be back soon we've been very busy and a lot has being going on blog posts about everything hasn't been a high priority issue as of late. We'll see if can get something up for the end of August though as a lot has changed in the past few months a lot of it not very customer facing. These changes however do make a huge difference in the experience of our customers and the reliability of our services.

I'm most likely going to the coffee shop today (my writing haven, of sorts) and plan on pushing out a "What the hell have you guys been doing this summer?" type post. I can't promise it'll be published today but it will be worked on and likely live by the end of the week.

Fair point. I was thinking of it more from a non support view rather then actual help to solve those common issues. It was more about wondering what the common problems are rather then solutions although if you are writing about the common problems, you may aswell write solutions and put them in the KB so I see your point.

Thanks, I will look forward to it :D
