  1. Starting Saturday July 26th we will be migrating the Neptune server to new hardware. This is in order to solve a few problems as well as enable the possibility to control R1Soft backups through the cPanel control panel. We expect absolutely no down time or service interruption of any kind during this maintenance window. All IP addresses will remain the same as we will be routing the IP addresses to the new machine so there will be no changes to DNS that need to be made. If you have any questions about this maintenance window do not hesitate to contact us. Start Date: 07/26/2008 End Date: 07/27/2008 Duration: 2 Days Expected Down Time: None
  2. Today the Skyline server reported it had found a bad block on the raid array. This could possibly mean that one drive in the array is failing or just a problem with a write of the raid array. We except absolutely zero down time due this however the array will need to be verified in order to check for possible drive failures or just to correct the bad block. During the verify operation there will be a slight degradation of performance. This post will be updated when the verify has been completed and whether or not we need to schedule a maintenance window in order to replace a hard drive (no down time required for it either) (Start times are no longer valid the issue has been escalated to non service impacting to service impacting)
  3. That's a pretty good idea. We'll look into doing that
  4. Are you able to transfer my files form the old server to the new? If your previous web host used cPanel then it is possible to restore a site via cPanel generated backup. I am running Vbulletin on my site and need the database moved. Are you able to do that? Databases are part of the generated back up Do you have someone on your staff that is experienced in the operation of VB and if I run into a server issue, would know how to fix it? Vbulletin is just like any other PHP script. We do not claim to be experts on the software but most issues can easily be resolved. Vbulletin also offers support if it's an issue with their software and not the servers. So they'd be able to provide expert support for their software.
  5. You can use a self signed certificate but then users visiting the site via https would receive an error from there browser. A certificate can be purchased for as low as $9.95 with places like godaddy for example offering them for $15. This price would be for a year so it's not that bad.
  6. 1. To change billing cycles you'd need to make a billing ticket requesting the change. Any discounts for the new billing period would indeed be applied. You cannot however decide to use a coupon we're currently running on the new billing term. 2. It can be added during the order process. If it's after the order then you would need to make a ticket. 3. For SSL you need the dedicated IP then the SSL certificate.
  7. Affected location: WDC01 Event start: 7/17/08
  8. I do not believe that is possible. The webmail page can accept anyones login though it just will not fill in the email by default.
  9. Yep Some things can be figured out just by clicking around a bit.
  10. Within WHM the List accounts page has a list of options and a clickable link to open a cPanel for that specific account. That would be an easier way to navigate between the accounts. Other than that there are no real easy ways to do it because a reseller account is really meant for people selling hosting so snooping on their customers would not be the norm.
  11. You cannot go back from WHM back to cPanel using the WHM interface. WHM is already it's own area and you do not need to go to cPanel to get to it. WHM: https://yourdomain.com:2087 or http://yourdomain.com:2086/ cPanel: https://yourdomain.com:2083/ or http://yourdomain.com:2082/ If you want to keep both open then open two tabs in your browser
  12. You're in Europe and having issues with our Texas location you should make a ticket asking to be moved to Washington DC which is much closer to Europe. Link to the topic: http://www.hawkhost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129 You can be moved free of charge and we've had a few customers in Europe already do this. You need to understand the issue you are describing only you have reported and we have customers from all over Europe. Not a single one has had slow speeds like yours. You say we're the 10th company you've tried with this issue. Is it not possible your ISP is throttling your upload?
  13. Upgrading would just involve us changing your space and bandwidth allocations. It would not involve down time of any kind. The only cost to you would be the change in the packages price. As for MySQL space limit, it would be the size of your account. Of course keep in mind CPU restrictions, as databases become larger they take more CPU and memory resources.
  14. Smarty is not globally installed on a server it is a templating engine. You can download smarty from http://smarty.php.net/ then upload the contents of the zip and just include the files.
  15. It varies from configuration to configuration, but on most of our servers it should allow you if the site is pointing to one of our IP's.
  16. We will be updating the Mercury server kernel to the latest version on Monday June 30th at 7:00am EST. We estimate this will result in about 10 minutes of down time while the server reboots. Keeping kernels up to data is a necessary step in order to stay on top of performance improvements as well as have the latest security fixes. The main reason for this update is to have a kernel that is supported by the new backup system we're using. Once this update is complete we'll start seeding the servers first backup on the new system. Date: 06/30/2008 Start time (EST): 7:00am End time (EST): 7:30am Duration: 30 minutes Expected Down Time: 10 minutes
  17. This has been completed. The server was down for about 20 minutes.
  18. Our Mars server currently has a failed backup battery unit on the raid card. This unit is used to make sure data is still written to the drives if there were to be power failure of some kind. As a result of this we believe it would be best to replace the failed battery unit as soon as possible. The maintenance window will be from 3:00 AM EST until 5:00 AM EST (GMT-6) on Wednesday June 25th. We do not expect it to take anymore than 20 minutes to replace the bad battery. During the 20 minute window of replacing the battery the server will be offline as it is a requirement to replace the battery unit. We are sorry about the short notice on the window, however this must be done and we rather not leave the raid card without a battery for more than 24 hours. Date: 06/25/2008 Start time (EST): 3:00am End time (EST): 5:00am Duration: 2 hours Expected Down Time: 20 minutes
  19. You do not have to use our name servers but if you're going this route you will need to contact support for the IP you should be pointing to. If you choose to use our name servers you cannot modify your own DNS zones, but we'll gladly do it for you. With this method when adding subdomains and things of that nature you will not need to do any work while if you're managing your own DNS you would have to. As for changing your domain later on we can change your domain. Keep in mind this would be to a domain not currently being used by your account. We cannot change your primary domain to an add-on domain and move all the contents of that add-on into your main folder.
  20. Yep it is a cool idea. I believe it used to do the includes for you so you did not need to do that. The problem though is it clogged up the apache configuration file so it was super slow loading all the extra files. So a simple include path will get you the same result and won't slow down our web server reloading which needs to be done each time a domain is added, remove ect.
  21. At this point in time we have null routed the IP's being attacked and Mercury should be functioning fine once again. The users affected are already aware of their sites being down. This issue is resolved at this point. If the problem does come back in the next 24 hours this topic will be updated.
  22. Our Mercury server is currently experiencing a significant distributed denial of service attack against it. We have put a Cisco Guard in front of the IP's being targeted in an attempt to stop the effectiveness of the attack. At this point in time there may be some packet loss on the Mercury server until the attack has stopped or been completely blocked. This topic will be updated with any major updates or resolution of the problem.
  23. Every folder except for cgi-bin are used by frontpage. If you have no plans on using frontpage extensions then you can delete the folders. The two HTML files used are also not needed they are information files.
