  1. Today around 12:34 EDT our Venus, Mars and Mercury servers all went off line for about 8 minutes as a result of a power issue within the datacenter we use. Here is the official notice we received from the datacenter: At approximately 12:34 EDT a PDU (power distribution unit) feeding 880 servers in Server Rooms 01, 02, and 03 tripped a main breaker causing interruption to all electrical devices downstream. Electricians on site determined that a short in power strip attached to a downstream circuit caused the upstream breaker to trip. They isolated this circuit and sequentially began to restore power to the affected infrastructure while monitoring its integrity. Datacenter Engineers then replaced the shorted power strip and restored power to the remaining devices. Engineers are currently working to verify that all servers return to their normal state of operation, and will continue to closely monitor this circuit for additional issues over the next 24 hours. Date: 02/11/2008 Start time (EDT): 12:34 End time (EDT): 12:42 Services affected: power Device: limited subsets of sr01, 02, 03 Location: dal01 Datacenter Duration: 8 minutes
  2. Please keep in mind https://www.hawkhost.com/support/ has a different login from https://www.hawkhost.com/clients/. When you first make a ticket or use the ticket creation option in the support area it will create an account for your email address.
  3. What is the ticket # you're wishing to check? Also keep in mind you can also email support, sales, billing opposed to making tickets on the site. just do [email protected] replacing department with sales, billing or support.
  4. This has been completed.
  5. On Friday January 25th starting at 11:00am EST we will be upgrading the Mercury server's Apache version from 2.2.6 to 2.2.8. This window will last for about an hour without any down time associated with it. The reason for this upgrade it to get to the latest version in the 2.2 branch which resolves several small issues we have been experiencing as of late. Date: 01/28/2007 Start time (EST): 11:00am End time (EST): 12:00pm Duration: 1 hour Expected Down Time: none

  7. This has been completed the server was down for about 5 minutes to reboot.
  8. This has been completed with about 8 minutes of down time which was a result of the server rebooting.
  9. Litespeed has a very restrictive EULA including content restrictions. Right now they do not allow adult content which for all we know could just be the start of their content restrictions. So for us we'd rather not deal with a webserver who is trying to restrict our content while no other webserver does this. Also on another point the cost of litespeed for us makes no sense to even use it. We run 4 CPU systems which is not cheap to do on litespeed. For those sort of prices it could be better spent having more servers.
  10. On Sunday January 13th at 10:45 am EST we will be updating our Mercury server kernel. The maintenance window will last for about 30 minutes with 10 minutes of that time being down time while the server is being rebooted. This is required from time to time to keep up with security and performance tweaks introduced by our OS vendor. Otherwise we could be open to exploits and also not have the latest performance tweaks resulting in slower than normal servers. If you have any questions about this maintenance do not hesitate to contact support. Date: 01/13/2007 Start time (EST): 10:45am End time (EST): 11:15am Duration: 30 minutes Expected Down Time: 10 minutes

  15. On January 5th at 12pm EST we will be upgrading our Mercury server's PHP4 version to PHP 4.4.8. As a result of this we will be rebuilding the entire Apache system to upgrade anything else that may need upgrading related to the web server. We do not expect any down time during this however we do expect a slight increase in server load but do not expect this to be noticeable. This maintenance should be done at 1pm EST at the latest. If you have any questions or concerns about this maintenance do not hesitate to contact support. Date: 01/05/2007 Start time (EST): 12:00pm End time (EST): 1:00pm Duration: 1 hour Expected Down Time: none

  17. Yeah google page rank. Considering most people charge for links on say a PR5 website I think it's a nice way to get a solid link to help boost search engine rankings while also helping us out. So http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker?domain=www.hawkhost.com
  18. Everyones coming out of their holes to chime in I love it I'd also like to mention that we are always looking for more testimonials to add to our site which is a PR5 on the main page and PR4 on the sub pages. So it's a great link if you like links for search engines. So if you're interested in adding a testimonial just email sales. Cody is suppose to be posting an announcement about this in the next few days but I figured I would mention it.
  19. On February 1st 2008 we will be switching the Mercury servers PHP primary version over to PHP 5 making PHP 4 our secondary. This is as a result of the PHP 4 end of life announcement. There is an announcement in located at http://www.hawkhost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56 which gives more information about the PHP 4 end of life and how it affects Hawk Host. Date: 02/01/2007 Start time (EST): 11:10am End time (EST): 11:20am Duration: 10 minutes

  21. I'm glad your experience has been a great one. I can't believe you've been with us 15 months already. Time sure does fly by. As for upgrades from time to time we need to upgrade software which requires us to reboot the machine after. So in that case it takes up to 10 minutes for the server to come back online.
  22. Well, unfortunately I don't think you'll be hearing from any of our customers unless they want to surprise me with a post. The majority of our customers are the kind who like solid hosting and a forum is not something that interests them.
