Semi Dedicated Account

hi,...

i already have an account with hawk host that I opened recently as you own sticky mail and I was having trouble with it and decided to go to the source, because if it didnt work with you it never will.

At the moment I have having major problems with my main host account with another provider..  I am fearful of moving but I am now just as fearful of staying with them..  after 5 years with them the support today told me more or less to get stuffed and to suck it up... in the end I cannot deal with that sort of arrogance..

I am fearfull of moving as sometimes the devil you know is better....   I have had bad experiences with shared servers, even though I am using shared hosting at the moment, my current provider provided a number of ip addresses that I assigned to my primary domains, they are still on a shared system but I dont see as many of the issues I do with the other domains i have are not on any assigned ip addresses..

I see you have a semi dedicated hosting accounts..  But I am not really understanding what they are about...

The issue I am having with my current provider is now all about my usuage..  I have used it up and now they want to stop my account, I am on their top shared account but the only choice I now have with them is to move to cloud hostig...  However to do this it will mean a leap from $100 a year (plus some extras that I pay for) and pay over $2.5k for fully serviced cloud hosting..  They dont have any prices in between..  Well I tell a lie they do, but when you question them you discover that you have to also run and manage the server, thats a hidden cost...  Or you can pay as much as the cloud hosting and then some to have them maintain the servers..  As you can guess if I wanted to pay over $250 a month then I would have already been doing that..

However this brings me here..  The only issue I have is that your live chat support is rarely up, each time I visit its never live..  So when there is an issue I am frightened that I will be waiting a couple of days for support tickets to be responded to..  But maybe this forum will have additional benefits..  its not something I usually see with a hosting company..

Anyway am I right to say that your semi dedicated hosting accounts are fully serviced, in that they are the same as the normal host account, i only have to be aware of my side of the fence, you carry out everything server side...

Also with this semi dedicated I am still not sure what these are..  They look better then shared, i am guessing this is still a shared environment, am I right..

What are the main differences, I see that you have a list of things, but that still means nothing in reality, as I can say I look like a god but as you havent seen me you can only take my word for it, but my view of myself will most definately be different from you...   What are the main differences,  what should I really be excited about, what are the main important features..

On a shared account you run the risk of running a script that gets out of control..  Such as installing a wp plugin that is a cpu hog (even though you have no idea that some dumb arse has wrongly created the plugin), then you eat up cpu usage and having your account suspended, I have seen so many honest unsuspecting people get into trouble this way.....  So I am always worried about this sort of thing..  Will the semi dedicated account help me overcome this if I am exposed to this...

After dealing with help support on my other host account I am convienced I need to find another host provider..   I have been through serveral over the years and I am scared to even change..  But I think the time has come for another change.. I am worried that hawkhost could disappear like so many others have in the past, but you have been around for a number of years so I am hoping this will be ok..

Can my current account with hawkhot easily be upgraded to semi dedicated...  Or will it mean that everything that is setup will have to be redone, or are you able to easily shift everything accross..

The base plan looks like more then I need..

10gig of space and 150gig of bandwith per month is fine..  Its four times more then what I need at present.

however is states is does not come with a dedicated ip.. this is where you lose me a bit...  if its a semi dedicated plan why wouldnt it come with a dedicated ip..  i see there is mention that i can pay for one...  So can you explain what all this is..  As this sort of smells like shared hosting but with some extras..  if I pay for a dedicated ip, what will be the advantage of doing this.....

I am use to multiple ips, so with a dedicted ip, that will mean that all the domains share the same ip address, is this correct..

What if I ended up paying for 2 ipaddresses, would I be able to choose each time I add a domain to cpannel which ip address it will be assinged with ?

Also I will need an ssl certificate for one of my domains what is the cost of that..

i am not sure, do you accept paypal..  i am not sure how I paid for my current account, but all my online money funnels through paypal then back to me, i can pay by credit card but I prefer not to as its a personal card..

thanks

Tracy

hi..

I also just noticed that your site says that I have to have a good reason to have a dedicated ip address..

so even if its a semi dedicated plan I will be sharing that ip address with 1000's of others on shared hosting if I am not approved for a dedicated ip..

is this correct..

Our helpdesk/ticket system (https://support.hawkhost.com) is available 24/7/365. You will never wait days for a reply, let alone hours. We do our best to have all issues resolved within 20 minutes, and if the issue will take more time than that we update your ticket letting you know and we continue to investigate. You will not be ignored.

Semi-dedicated plans are just like shared hosting except they offer more resources. That means twice the CPU limit, more bandwidth/disk space, along with higher mail/MySQL limits. A full break breakdown of the advantages can be found at http://www.hawkhost.com/semi-dedicated-hosting/advantages

Will the semi dedicated account help me overcome this if I am

exposed to this...

The extra CPU on this plan will help avoid that situation as compared to shared, but if the plugin really does use so much resources that you're having issues with multiple providers then the issue is not with the hosts but with the plugin. At that point you'd need to consider something more powerful like a VPS.

I am worried that hawkhost could disappear like so many others have in the past, but you have been around for a number of years so I am hoping this will be ok..

We've been in business since 2004 and have grown every year. We aren't going anywhere :)

Can my current account with hawkhot easily be upgraded to semi dedicated...  Or will it mean that everything that is setup will have to be redone, or are you able to easily shift everything accross..

We can migrate your existing account. You may need to change your nameservers but all your files/databases/settings etc will all be transferred over.

Semi-dedicated plans are placed on a shared IP unless you can provide an SSL certificate you'll be installing. The only justification we'll accept for issuing a dedicated IP to any account is for SSL certificates unfortunately.

I am use to multiple ips, so with a dedicted ip, that will mean that all the domains share the same ip address, is this correct..

All domains on your cPanel account would be hosted from the dedicated IP, that is correct.

What if I ended up paying for 2 ipaddresses, would I be able to choose each time I add a domain to cpannel which ip address it will be assinged with ?

This would not be possible as you can only assign 1 IP per cPanel account, so you'd need a second cPanel account for another IP.

Also I will need an ssl certificate for one of my domains what is the cost of that..

Through us an SSL cert is $14.99 for one year (http://www.hawkhost.com/ssl-certificates) or you can use a certificate from another company, either option will work.

i am not sure, do you accept paypal..  i am not sure how I paid for my current account, but all my online money funnels through paypal then back to me, i can pay by credit card but I prefer not to as its a personal card..

We accept Paypal, major credit cards (Visa, Discover, Mastercard and Amex) and also Alipay.

Hopefully I got to all your questions but if not just let me know. We may get to a point where specific account details are required in which case I wouldn't want those on a public forum, so it may be best if you open a support ticket and reference this forum to continue the discussion.

Thanks Brian..

I did end up purchasing as I managed to catch sales online for a short period, so i spoke to them...

I will say though that I am impressed with the speed to which my tickets have been responded to..  My experience with host providers has always been 12 to as much as 48 hours turn around for tickets..

Just this morning I had an issue, well as it turns out it wasnt an issue, more of a worry (after the grief I have had with hosting over the last few days my worry meter is at its peak)...  However I expected maybe a few hours before I got  a response..  This may not always be the norm, but a response time in minutes was way more then I could have dreamed of, maybe I caught your team at a time when there were no other tickets in the system, but at any rate I was very impressed...

thanks...

Tracey

In my experience over the past 4 years (ish) is that more often than not, you will get a reply in less that an hour. It may not always get sorted in that first reply but usually if it is a small issue it will be sorted and if it is a bigger problem then you will be in the process of getting it sorted within a hour usually.
