  1. Level 3 will be upgrading their edge3.dal1 router starting at the time listed below. Dallas datacenter customers should experience no outage during this time. Date: Thursday, June 19th, 2008 (6/19/2008) Start time (CDT): 03:00:00 End time (CDT): 04:00:00 Duration: 1 hour Service affected: None Reason: vender maintenance Locations: dal01
  2. 1) Do you have raid servers for all? Do you provide me backup of my site if something happens? All our web serving servers have raid. As for backups we do not guarantee that the backups we make are what you'd want or anything like that. Pretty much what any host says when you ask about backups. We generate them in an attempt to minimize potential problems if we lose an entire array or something like that of course. If there is a failure we'd restore the site from our backups. 2) Is there any limitation in the number of files or inodes? We do not specifically set a limit, however if you have so many files that you're causing extreme strain on our backup systems or even the server it self we may ask you to reduce the number of files. 3) Limitrecursion for pure-ftpd - can it be set at 4000 or 5000? I'm not sure why you need this, but we set our ftp to the defaults and see no reason to be switching values to what I assume are for certain use cases only which probably do not belong in shared environment in the first place. 4) I have a nearly 30 mb mysql database ? How can I put it on your server? 30MB database you may be able to do through phpmyadmin, however if you are unable to you can do it from SSH or we can do it from SSH assuming you upload the database as a .sql file. 5) Is this host sale-proof meaning many webhosts I have been with has done good business and then either changed data centers or sold to a new company leaving customers in mess? Well, no host is not for sale if the offer was something absolutely ridiculous we may consider it. But I doubt we'd see any offer we'd consider worth while to sell the company so I doubt it would happen. 6) Any plans to add support for ffmeg like this http://phpmotion.com/content/view/43/189/[ remove link after you have seen] At this time we have no plans in support ffmpeg.
  3. Basically it isn't a huge deal until we start to a see a server using a more CPU than we think it should be at this point. At which case we then say sites using large amounts of CPU (10% of the boxes cpu power) may be asked to optimize or find new hosting. As far as apache requests well no limit on that since it would fall under the same cpu clause.
  4. What FTP client are you using to do it? Some FTP clients don't play nice with large files unfortunately.
  5. Best to ask us to do it through a support ticket.

  9. All hosting orders are manually verified before they are setup. So if you order during non business hours and particularly at 3-6am range your order will not be processed until around 9am (depends on order backlog). We will send you an email with all your login information once your account is setup.
  10. Sunday May 4th at 12:30pm EST we will be updating the Skyline server's PHP to 5.2.6. This update has 120 bug fixes as well as several security fixes in it as well. We're sorry about the short notice however there have been a few 5.2.5 bugs causing problems as of late that we would like to resolve. We do not expect any down time during this maintenance window. Date: 05/04/2008 Start time (EST): 12:30pm End time (EST): 1:30pm Duration: 1 hour

  13. The first ticket you make it sends you the password for the email you put in on the support ticket. Then you can just login from the menu on the side of all the support area pages.
  14. Yep that would be the ideal location. For further questions I recommend you try using our support system https://www.hawkhost.com/support/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit
  15. It's not a feature in cPanel for resellers to do it so the answer would be no. We're pretty quick about restoring accounts for you though, it's not like you're waiting for days for us to do it or anything like that. All you need to do is set the backup to ftp to your space with us then put in a ticket and we move the file then restore it.
  16. Putting tech-pro.net as the domain would be acceptable and our order form would allow for that. Another option is to put that domain at the start then email sales and we can change the domain to something else for you. So you could put something like hawkhost.tech-pro.net as the primary domain. Then of course you'd need to setup a dns entry to be able to access that subdomain if you needed it. But a dns entry is not necessary as we do give you the ip you need in order to connect to cpanel and whm.

  19. We will be updating the Mercury server kernel to the latest version on Wednesday April 30th at 10:30am EST. We estimate this will result in about 10 minutes of down time while the server reboots. Keeping kernels up to data is a necessary step in order to stay on top of performance improvements as well as have the latest security fixes. Date: 04/30/2008 Start time (EST): 11:00am End time (EST): 11:30am Duration: 30 minutes Expected Down Time: 10 minutes

  21. I may have missed the notes on back-up ... Are there guaranted back-ups done by Hawkhost of my site ? We do backups everyday of 14% of the total accounts on the server. So over the course of a week each account is backed up. The reason for this is backups are an intensive operation. We're looking into other options for doing backups that can provide us with as low as hourly backups without extreme strain on the servers. Any sample url of php info for shared server? Does php run as cgi and custom php.ini files addable ? http://skyline.hawkhost.com/phpinfo.php We run PHP as a CGI using suPHP so php.ini files need to be used to override php variables. Is there any serious performance difference between basic and standard plans? There isn't a performance difference all shared account types are put on the same kind of servers. The only difference is allocated space, bandwidth and we're more lenient on CPU and memory due to the fact the account costs more. Does hawkhost plan to have ffmpeg hosting and Zeus servers in near future? At this point in time Zeus is not supported by cPanel which we run and ffmpeg requires us to custom compile it and we don't think enough users use it to make sense to maintain it ourselves. If it was ever to be included in cPanel by default we would support it.
  22. Most of these problems are reasonably resolved that it is no longer noticable. This topic won't be updated anymore but routes still may improve.
  23. 1. Level 3 was effected by a fiber cut in their Dallas to Houston area. Due to this cut, a large amount of traffic was shifted elsewhere causing certain Level 3 segments to have problems. On 4/23/2008 we stopped announcing our IPs to Level 3 in an effort to stop customers from coming in on our Level 3 circuit. 2. It appears Verio was peering with one of the affected Level3 links. As this was causing even more issues, we returned the Level3 link back to operation, and Verio routed through Chicago, around the problem link. 3. AT&T continues to have issues with reachability to the majority of Tier 1 carriers. While we have no control over this, customers will experience issues if their ISP uses AT&T to reach us. At this time things are obviously not 100% optimal but we have very few reports of being unable to reach our servers. Performance however at this time is affected depending on the route you are taking. This ticket will be updated when we have more information.
  24. MySQL management is handled entirely through your cPanel. This includes making of MySQL users their permissions for the databases and such as well.
  25. When you switch your name servers it can take up to 48 hours for everything on the internet to see the changes however most see it in a few hours at most. One thing though when you switch your name servers your old account would still work so some mail would arrive at your old host it would not be lost forever.
