I typed my domain name in on a server location lookup website and it said the server was in Chicago... I thought it was in Dallas?

http://www.81solutions.com/server-location.html does not provide accurate info because its GeoLite database is not updated with the most current data. MaxMind has the latest info in its database - Enter your server location at http://www.maxmind.com/app/lookup_city?type=geolite and it shows up as Dallas.

If you like something visual, you can use http://geotool.servehttp.com/ to check for location of server, domain or IP address.

Even with the up to date information it bases things off of the information in the IP database SWIP I believe? So for example our Washington DC location claims to be in Dallas because SoftLayer's corporate office is in Dallas and they own the IP's. If we put our information on the IP's then the servers would be in Canada supposedly so we leave Softlayers information.

Yes, you're right about SWIP. I checked out your Washington IP address and it showed as Dallas. This is so absurd! All these "useful" online tools providing somewhat incorrect information. They must've misinterpreted the data somewhere along the line.

I suppose the most accurate will be the tracert command.
