nava
Hi When i register with my previous hosting company they also offer a free domain, I check the domain now and I can see the following: Status: clientTransferProhibited Registrant Contact: My Name and details Administrative Contact: Hosting's contact details When I check in the hosting admin page there's no option to do any changes to the domain. Looking at the above does it mean that I'm the Owner of the domain or only a contact? when I try to transfer as it was a free domain with my hosting will they give me any problems to move it? I will check and send them a mail and ask them to unlock the domain for me. Regards
Tony
They will most likely give you trouble about it due to the fact you did not pay for the domain specifically. So you may be out of luck with regards to being able to transfer the domain away from them. Most places should be giving you a way to control your domain, but if they're not that is an instant red flag of a potential lock in where if you attempt to move hosting they keep your domain. If they refuse to give you access you could try going above them as they're most likely not an accredited domain registrar. Which means they are paying someone else for the right to sell domains. So you contact who they're purchasing the domains from and they may just give you access to the domain.
