Which plugin is the best for WordPress caching?

Not aware of this. I don't see any menu options in Hawk Host website for domain registrations, renewals, or transfers.

Name.com recently announced on their blog that they will start charging for private whois. Prior to this announcement, they were offering free private whois which was their unique selling point. It surprised me that they made a decision to remove the most important feature that has made them successful. Bad decision can only lead to a pure fiasco (remember the vbulletin mess?). Needless to say, there are a lot of anger and disappointments expressed. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a mass exodus of their customers. To soften the impact of this new change, they have created a promo code "FREEWHOIS" which will discount the special $1.99 pricing to zero when you purchase private whois for your domain. When your domains are due for renewal, you can also use this promo code if you want free private whois. The "FREEWHOIS" is limited to only 1 year. If you are a Name.com customer with private whois enabled for your domains, you will be tickled pink to know that there is currently a loophole or "bug" in their billing system which will allow you to get free private whois for more than 1 year. Credit goes to the resourceful Name.com customer who discovered it. I was blessed to be told about this method, and I'm just passing the blessing on. What you need to do is log into your account and perform the following steps: 1) Click on the "Account" icon which will display all your domains. 2) Select the check box next to "Whois Privacy" for all domains that you want private whois. You can renew just your private WHOIS service now, independent of your domains renewal. 3) Click on "renew checked products" on the header. 4) You will see "Checkout Review" showing a list of domains for which you want Whois Privacy. Leave the Duration as 1 year - do not increase the Duration otherwise it'll not work. 5) Enter "FREEWHOIS" in the Promo Code and click on "Apply Promo" button. The Total will re-display as 0.00 6) Under Billing Options, select "Account Credit". Do not use Credit Card or PayPal to pay since the Total Amount is zero. 7) Check "I agree to the registration terms and conditions" (hopefully there's no clause to own our immortal souls) 8) Click on the "Checkout" button. Doing the above steps will give you an additional year of free private whois. The beauty of it is, you can repeat the above steps as many times as you want to get more years of free private whois. Take advantage of this wonderful bug before Name.com fixes it. Enjoy!

OK...it's getting warmer... If I were to land on this thread via MainIndex > Off-Topic > IPB Issues, the permalinks shown on all posts are correct. Edit: Yup! After adding this post, I continue to remain in this thread. So...the problem only happens when I land on this thread by directly clicking on the "View last post" or "Go to the first unread post: IPB Issues" from the Main Index. Clicking on those links seem to break all links subsequently. What do you think, my dear Watson?

Tried the Search function. When the search results are displayed, I'm unable to go to any of the posts because the links are all broken. Are your links broken in your search results page?

I took a look at my account's settings to see if there's anything that could affect posting but couldn't find any. What did you change? Still broke... Btw, it's OK when I edit a post and Save Changes. Problem doesn't happen for edit post.

Even clicking on a post's permalink does not work. The permalink's url address does not appear to exist. In fact, it looks quite strange. For example, the permalink to the previous post is: "http://forums.hawkhost.com/page__pid__2955__st__0/page__view__findpost__p__2955" instead of " I tried out the permalinks in Frog Host's forum and they're OK for me. I bet it must be the permalink's structure that's causing these issues.

Let's see... Edit: How odd, it didn't work for me. I'm using Firefox and did clear cache. I clicked on "Add Reply" button, entered some text and submitted the post. IPB sends this Url http://forums.hawkhost.com/page__pid__2948__st__0/page__gopid__2952&#entry2952 but the index page is displayed instead of thread.

After adding a reply to a thread, the main index would display instead of the thread I was replying to. IPB sends an Url ( e.g. http://forums.hawkhost.com/page__gopid__2946 ) that does not exist, hence the index page is displayed. Not critical but a nagging annoyance.

Ah, I see what you mean. I agree with Fowler about the posture. The thumbs up in your old mascot sends out a very positive message about your hosting. The new mascot has his finger pointing up - according to some interpretation of this body language, it's to caution or a request to stop whatever behavior that prompts this reaction. Another interpretation of finger pointing in the air is to add emphasis by a person of authority/power. I think finger pointing generally does not show positivity. The only exception is when a finger and wink is directed at a person, then it shows positive appreciation.

I think it's going to be hard to please every partner.

Oh, you mean the mascot and logo shown in this thread are the new revisions? Sorry...I thought they were the first drafts and subsequently abandoned in favor of what's currently in hawkhost.com. Are there any reasons why you are considering a revision of the mascot and logo? About the evilly evil look... I think the look that they're trying to represent is that of fierceness and that's how a hawk would most likely appear...that's simply their nature. You have a very challenging project, Mikael...

The 'question and answer' approach works for automatic registrations but it still won't stop manual registrations by spammers. IPB's Spam Monitoring Service is a brilliant idea - it continually learns from the collective data sent from all IPB forums with this service installed. This is probably IPB's greatest selling point. How it works: 1) During registration, the new user's IP address and email address are sent to IPB Spam Monitoring Service. 2) The spam service checks these data against a central database of known spammers. 3) The service assigns a score (1-4) to the new account. Based on the score, you can configure the system to automatically ban the account, accept it, or require manual approval. 4) Anytime an account is manually marked as a spammer, the account's information is fed back to the service to update the central database. The service will then check this spammer account on all the other IPB forums and ban it. (If you're concerned about privacy issues, this service only keeps information of spammer accounts. Any valid account's information are temporary and eventually get deleted.) Only power in numbers can combat spam.

Now that Hawk Host Forums is using IPB, embedding a video is easily done by clicking on the "Insert media" button in RTE.

You're right about that. The company that acquired Jelsoft is Internet Brands, a company with experience in automobiles, home loans, and vacation rental properties but no experience whatsoever in software development or in community building software. Most of the vbulletin original developers, including the lead developer and co-founder left Jelsoft. There's a lot of anger from its users over the new license fees for vbulletin 4 upgrade and it's a great shame how Internet Brands treated their customers. Apparently the new vbulletin 4 has a lot of problems, including some serious security issues like XSS vulnerabilities. It's sad to see such a promising forum software fail due to the inexperience of the company that acquired it. This is a really interesting case study on how to lose customers and destroy a good brand. Glad that Hawk Host has decided to go with IPB instead.
