  1. Yeah, I think I can simulate your problem with the password not being supplied by Chrome. After logging out, you probably clicked on "Click here to log in again" and it shows a different login screen with the username and password blanked out. Just re-enter your username and password one more time and you shouldn't have a problem with blank username/password again.

  2. Softlayer is already IPv6 compatible and has been for a long time.

    That's very good!

cPanel doesn't seem very confident about IPv6 implementation as they couldn't even give a timeframe for it. cPanel will lose its market share if it doesn't pull its socks up. Just because it's the current leader for control panels doesn't mean it can take its own sweet time for IPv6 and force their customers to wait for it.

Actually, this is a very good time for another competitive product to enter into the web hosting control panel market and become the new leader...and I hope it's open source! :D

How about setting up a separate server to explore cPanel alternatives with IPv6 compatibility? Just in case cPanel doesn't deliver, you can quickly switch to one that does and still keep your customers. You can invite some of your existing customers to try it out as a means of testing it in a real world scenario. Free, of course! :P

Here are some cPanel alternatives supporting IPv6 as shown in Wikipedia's comparison of web hosting control panels :

    SysCP

    Virtualmin / Virtualmin Pro

    Webmin

  3. Besides cPanel being ready for IPv6, what about the hardware aspects? Has Softlayer announced their plans for incorporating IPv6 into their network infrastructure?

Brace yourself and see what happens if we're not ready for IPv6:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYffYT2y-Iw

Seriously, I think all systems affected should focus their efforts on being ready for IPv6 and consider it top priority for 2011. There are so many interconnectivities in our systems today that if any part is not ready, the whole system fails.

  4. It's finally happened - the last block of IPv4 addresses have been allocated. IPv4 exhaustion is expected to happen in the respective regions as follows:

    1) APNIC (Asia Pacific) - next few months

    2) RIPE NCC (Europe, Middle East and parts of Central Asia) - end of 2011

    3) ARIN (North America) - 2012

    4) LACNIC (South and Central America) - between 2012 to 2014

    5) AfriNIC (Africa) - low usage; long time before it runs out of IPv4 addresses

    See IPv4 Exhaustion Counter

a.) What is Hawk Host's plan for IPv6 transition?

b.) Will it be ready for the World IPv6 Day on June 8th this year?

  5. I hope even more of them do transfer over here.... it is a good bunch of users. I would suggest it on HostPC forum, but that would probably get me banned at HostPC. (I'm still a user there... something about watching a ship go down...you just stand there and stare...still not believing it.)

Saving those "good bunch of users" by telling them about Hawk Host is worth getting banned at the HostPC forum. You can give them hope and salvation.

  6. They are not resolved and affect any host running Litespeed or using the event mpm in Apache. My guess it has something to do with how event driven web servers work. We're simply not capable of even having close to the same capacity we'd have non CloudLinux before we run into troubles with it. They don't figure they'll have time to dig deep into this until their next release of new features. After that they figure it might be several months before they are able to figure this out and solve it.

Will these issues disappear with the new LiteSpeed 4.1?

  7. I'm new to web designing, and I know a little of html and php, but wanted to start learning asp. I have made a very simple webpage but I can't just upload it like a normal webpage. When I do and I view the page in firefox it just shows up in coded text. What am I missing, can I not use asp with Hawk Host? Do I need publish the file a certain way?(currently using visual studio) I just started attempting to learn asp tonight so this is probably a noob question and I will feel dumb for asking it, but thanks for any info.

You can run ASP on your own PC if you install IIS (Internet Information Server) on your Windows PC so it acts as a local web server. Haven't tried it myself but the tutorial looks comprehensive enough. A local web server is good for developing & testing out your code/design first. It's also much faster than an online web server. Once it's ready for production, you can upload it to an online web server so that it can be accessed globally.

    Have fun! :)

  8. They do not allow me to change Name Servers.

    That's odd.

I have an account with name.com and can change nameservers for any of my domains.

    1) Click on the Account icon at the top to display a list of your domains.

    2) Click on the domain name to display domain's details.

    3) Just above the name servers on the left side of the screen, you can see (edit). Clicking on it will allow you to change the name servers for the current domain. You can also select "Edit Name Servers" under Domain Management on the right menu.

    4) Remove the current name servers before adding the new name servers.

The user interface of domain registrars are not the most friendly, GoDaddy being the worst. Name.com not too bad but can be improved. Sometimes I find myself lost in their maze.

    Anyways, hope this helps.

  9. Okay, as I have said, I am new to the web editing world. (I just turned 14) So it says when I chose a web hosting package that the basic package comes with 6000 megabytes of Disk Space. Does this mean that when I create the site, I can only have 6,000 megabytes of space? That seams extremely low. Considering one 1 minute video almost takes up half the space. I must be wrong.

You can upload your videos on free video hosting sites like Youtube and embed the videos into your website. This will save you lots of disk space and bandwidth.

  10. Now unfortunately we've ran into some issues with our first CloudLinux deployment that didn't happen in our test environment so we're investigating that / working with the developers of the software involved to get this ironed out.

Any updates on these issues? Resolved?

  11. Since you asked, Cody, let's start with yourself. You stated, "I know you're very pragmatic / detail oriented so I'm somewhat surprised we passed with flying colors." The real question here is, why were you, as an employee of HawkHost, surprised that your company passed with flying colors, with me, your customer?

Let me venture a guess: They probably think you have very high standards, and naturally they were surprised by your encouraging review. They're quite a humble lot, really...which is a good thing. :)

  12. I must say: it is really very very very bad!!! I just can NOT find the cancel button !!!

    WhERE IS THE CANCEL BUTTON?

I hate to submit a cancellation application via email. Because on most occassions, I help my friends to operate the purchase procedure, but some of them may had made a wrong order. So I have to cancel it first, But, the annoying problem is: I can't see the cancel button!!!!!

How can I emphasize this anger and dissapointment stronger so that you will make that Cancel button visible ????

Where do you think is the best place for the CANCEL button?

  13. I've just upgraded my account to the super shared hosting plan and was wondering if there is an upgrade plan beyond that, or at least something that can be negotiated. Specifically bandwidth, which is 240GB on the super plan. I don't need lots of disk space or cpu, but have a few videos that are popular (nothing dodgy) and don't want to come close to the 240GB limit and find there is nowhere else to go.

I'm really happy with hawkhost and don't want to move. It would be nice to know if there is an option to add bandwidth to the plan.

    Thanks

You can get unlimited bandwidth with FrogHost. Currently there's a coupon sep30 (ending end Sep 2010) which gives you 30% off the lifetime of the account. Quite rare, I should say.

You can be assured of the same level of professional service at FrogHost as it is managed & supported by the same people in HawkHost.

  14. I really am just interested in installing it and learning about it. It does seem that depending on the activity, shared hosting might not be the best place for it. I just want to try it out and learn about it, that's really all. Apparently it's static, not dynamic like Wordpress, so it scales really well. Might as well give it a shot, apparently there are other shared hosting providers where it works, so I figure it will probably be OK.

Another alternative is to install Movable Type on XAMPP for Windows, if you're interested in learning about it. Google search for "movable type" xampp windows

  15. Looks like things are just gonna get better at Hawk Host! :)

Now unfortunately we've ran into some issues with our first CloudLinux deployment that didn't happen in our test environment so we're investigating that / working with the developers of the software involved to get this ironed out.

Oops, let me qualify my sentence with "...after some teething problems, naturally."

  16. a) It's going to be greater than the amount possible to use. We've always limited the number of PHP processes you can generate so it will not be possible to go over the memory limit which would probably be in the generous 768MB+ range

    B) Right now I/O limiting is not supported so no limit there

    c) Our control panel says 500,000 which I don't think a single user is even remotely close to that amount. It's not controlled by CloudLinux either so you could go over it we just added the display to the control panel since users have been asking for one.

So far, so good. Not as bad as I thought.

CloudLinux...quite an excellent idea, actually. Looks like things are just gonna get better at Hawk Host! :)
