Tony Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 On Friday February 15th at 11:00 am EST we will be updating our Venus server kernel. The maintenance window will last for about 30 minutes with 10 minutes of that time being down time while the server is being rebooted. This is required from time to time to keep up with security and performance tweaks introduced by our OS vendor. Otherwise we could be open to exploits and also not have the latest performance tweaks resulting in slower than normal servers. If you have any questions about this maintenance do not hesitate to contact support. Date: 01/13/2007 Start time (EST): 11:00am End time (EST): 11:30pm Duration: 30 minutes Expected Down Time: 10 minutes
Tony Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 This has been completed. This resulted in about 10 minutes of down time in total. This addressed a recent security vulnerability found in the kernel that Venus was running https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2008-0129.html. We had this patched days ago with a temporary patch but it's always much better to have it done through an official kernel.
