Are you sure about that?

I've set up store.example.com and www.example.com for a site, both as SSL, on a shared hosting account with one dedicated IP and one certificate. All you need is a Wildcard SSL certificate. StartSSL seems to be the cheapest option at USD$40/yr. See other choices at http://www.enom.com/secure/default.aspx
