Tony
This morning we were alerted by the raid card that one of Jupiter's hard drives had failed and that it'll need replaced. We are going to do this as soon as possible to avoid any data loss in case another drive fails. There will be no down time required as this server supports swapping drives while the system is active. Date: 08/12/2009 Start time (EST): ASAP End time (EST): ? Duration: 30 minutes Estimated Down Time: none
Tony
We replaced the hard drive and the raid card is not picking up the new drive so we have reason to believe that there is something wrong with the raid card. Most likely the port has gone bad. As a result of this we're going to need to take the server off line to replace the card. Unfortunately the server will be down for up to 20 minutes but we have no choice in this matter has running the server on a degraded raid causes performance problems as well as risk user data. So to summarize raid card port is bad we will be taking the server off line as soon as possible to replace the raid card.

Tony
The server is now back online and is picking up the new drive and is rebuilding it. The performance of the machine appears to be much better even while rebuilding. It is no longer struggling with i/o like before when the old drive failed.
