Tony Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 The Bosco machine will be going down today (July 27th) for upgrades. The new specification machine is currently being built and once completed we will be turning off our old machine named Bosco. Once that is done we will proceed to reseed backups of each server. The reason for this upgrade is to provide more space and more importantly improve the speeds of our backups. The old machine had the following specifications Xeon 3060 2GB RAM 4x1TB Raid-5 The new machine is the following: Dual Xeon 5130 4GB RAM 12x1TB Raid-10 As you can see it's a substantial upgrade from the previous server. We will update this post as more information is available.
Tony Posted July 27, 2009 Author Report Posted July 27, 2009 The new machine is online and has started seeding backups for our machines. It should be done seeding all machines in the next 24 hours and as each machine finishes it's regular backup schedule will start again.
Tony Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 About 25% complete seeding machines and I'm basing this off of disk usage used in comparison to the old machine. As far as machines a few have been completed thus far and they'll all be done in probably 12-16 hours.
Tony Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 All machines now have their initial seeds with some having two days worth of backups already. With this completed all backups should now be finished in record time and no longer should there be extended wait times for restores due to backups running.
