On Wednesday November 21st starting at 9am pst we will be taking the sjc003 server down to run a file system check on one of the partitions the operating system is reporting to have issues. This is necessary maintenance as otherwise the problem could result in an unplanned outage and potential data loss if it's a file system check is not done within a reasonable timeframe. We've set aside a window of 3 hours meaning the window ends at 12pm pst. We estimate the actual file system check will take about an hour and a half to be completed. We scheduled the window based on the usage patterns of this system where during this window it sees significantly less traffic than the rest of the day.

End time (PST): 12:00pm
Duration: 3 hours
Estimated Down Time: 120 minutes

I created a database called: shivamam_FreeWizard101Codes
I also made a user called: shivamam_fw101c
I also interconnected them, and gave the user all permissions
 
The following script worked at my last host, so why doesn't it work here?
 
$mysql_host = "localhost"; $mysql_username = "shivamam_fw101c"; $mysql_password = "password"; $mysql_database = "shivamam_FreeWizard101Codes"; mysql_select_db($mysql_database, mysql_connect($mysql_host, $mysql_username, $mysql_password));  
 
I get the following error:
 
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 113
 
I don't understand what the problem is. All i changed was the My Sql info. This worked perfectly at my last host, so why not here?

Why hawkhost no Chinese customer service

When will HawkHost be upgrading MySQL to 5.5.8? Is there a way to do this if not?

Hey all, first time here, loving the set up of Hawkhost. 
 
Can someone shed some light on the mailing list notification when subscribing members. 
Basically for years I just kept a google doc with addresses in there and I am debating adding them all to the list. 
When I was at dreamhost they insisted I had to have the users agree to join. I was not able to add them.
I was a bit annoyed at this, but understood of course.
 
Now I have left Dreamhost and am enabling the mailing list option, but before I add people. Will they get a mass email asking them to agree to be added? OR, can I just add them and not worry about it. 

Just worried that if I add them its going to bother them. I am an artist and send invites to shows once every 4 months or so, but its getting tedious and want to just automate everything.
