hentaiporn reacted to Tony in Hardware Migration [10/21/2009] - [10/24/2009]
We will be migrating the Yoda node to new hardware starting on October 21st and it will last up until October 24th although we estimate it'll take not even 24 hours to migrate the entire node to new hardware.

There will be no down time during this migration we will move VPS's using the migration tools in OpenVZ to minimize the impact of the move as much as possible. We're sorry about the short notice regarding this we were waiting on availability of hardware before posting any notice and we found out today the hardware was available and we'd like to use it immediately.

    Specification break down:

    Old Yoda
    Dual Xeon 5430
    8GB RAM
    4x250GB SATA Raid-10

    New Yoda
    Dual Xeon 5520
    24GB RAM
    4x300GB SAS Raid-10

So this is a significant jump in specifications on this node.

If you have any questions or concerns about this migration do not hesitate to make a VPS ticket.

    Start Date: 10/21/2009
    End Date: 10/24/2009
Estimated Down Time: less than 5 minutes
    Duration: 4 days

hentaiporn reacted to Tony in Gizmo Migration [12/17/2008]
This morning we experienced drive failure on the Gizmo server and also raid failure. After rebooting the machine we were able to bring it back online eventually. We were alerted to failed stripes on the raid array of Gizmo. This is not fixable and requires a complete rebuild of the raid array. Rather than rebuilding the array and restoring from backups we're going to migrate everyone to another node. We will be starting this as soon as possible and we'll update everyone as we move forward. You will not have any change of IP addresses or logins.

We hope to have everyone migrated before anything serious happens. But we have made another set of backups just in case the server is to fall offline before we migrate all VPS's off of it.

The Spitfire server had a kernel panic which we believe was caused by bad memory. Unfortunately we're forced to do a FSCK on a few partitions so we'll be providing updates in this thread as it progresses.

We will be updating the Titan server kernel to the latest version on Friday January 15th between 6:00am PST and 9:00am PST. We estimate this will result in about 10 minutes of down time while the server reboots.

Keeping kernels up to data is a necessary step in order to stay on top of performance improvements as well as have the latest security fixes.

Starting on Saturday April 21st we will be migrating the Jupiter server to new higher end hardware as well as better system configuration. We feel this will benefit all users on the Jupiter server. We estimate this will be completed no later than Tuesday April 24th.

We expect no more than 5 minutes of downtime per account as we will be moving accounts to the new server then re-routing the IP address to the new hardware. This means there will be no changes to DNS and as a result no dns propagation issues. In our experience our migration method means the large majority of users will not even realize that they've switched servers. If you do however run into any issues do not hesitant to contact us as our system administrators are prepared to resolve any issues experienced.

The new Jupiter server will be similar to that of our recent deployment of servers:

    Old Jupiter:
    Dual Xeon E5520
    24GB RAM
    4x300GB Raid-10

    New Jupiter:
    Dual Xeon X5670
    24GB RAM
    4x600GB Raid-10

So this is a pretty big upgrade as it will have four additional CPU cores with 8 to the operating system counting hyper threading. It will also be using 600GB disks over 300GB disks of the old system.

Once the migration starts as accounts transfer over they will go onto the newjupiter hostname until the entire migration is complete when the new hardware will become jupiter and the old server oldjupiter.

If you have any questions regarding the maintenance do not hesitate to contact us. Our system administration department is available to answer any questions regarding this.

    End Date: 04/24/2012

I figured I'd mention most likely tomorrow and if not tomorrow on the weekend we'll be switching from vbulletin to invision power board. We've just had our fill of the bots overrunning our forums and just vbulletin in general being a major annoyance.

So expect a new look soon and probably a whole lot less annoying bots showing up on our forums. Which I guess means more people are going to need to post to make up for the bots
