Thanks ichsie2036!
Ah, that's what you think. You're just not used to people being nice and keeping in mind that the 'customer is (sometimes) right'. Companies these days think they have their own law as to what you can and can't do.
Even recently, I upgraded my transfer speed with my ISP to 20mb from 2mb. I've been with the company for over 4 years and we still had the original modem in place, which, lets face it, couldn't cope and kept rebooting.
I call the ISP and explain we've just upgraded and our 4 year old modem probably can't take the strain and we'll probably just need a new one.
"Okay sir, I will send an engineer out to you. He'll be arriving on Wednesday between 8am and 6pm" (!!!)
".. An engineer?"
"Yes sir, we need to verify the issue before we send a modem out"
".. But, I'll have to take a day off work for that. Do you not send new modems out with upgrades then?"
"No sir, just new customers"
"Right.. Well, let's try this. Send me a new modem out and I will see if that works. If it does, then we're happy! If not, you can send an engineer out and I will take a day off work for you"
"Sorry sir, thats how we do it here"
".. Let me speak to the superviser please"
"Please hold"
.. I wait 20 minutes on hold
"Okay sir, I have sent the new modem out it'll be with you in 2-5 working day goodbye *click*"
.. He hung up on me! Unbelievable!
Needless to say .. The new modem worked but it really shouldn't be that hard, should it? If people used their noggin just a little bit and realised that a 4 year old modem probably wasn't designed for 20mb.. Then everyone would be happy!
It never works like that anymore with big firms. That's why HawkHost got a nice review from me. They use their heads, not a script.
