  1. Which part do you not understand?

    Shared > Reseller > VPS > Semi-Dedicated > Dedicated

This is typically the hosting industry standard. Semi-Dedicated is 1 step above VPS (or it should be) and 1 below dedicated.

You have it rather like a "shared plus account", which doesn't really make much sense.

Yeah I do kinda see what you're saying how they said it is "Semi-dedicated" when Semi Dedicated is like a hybrid VPS, it'd be like someone calling shared hosting a reseller I guess they just picked a weird name for it :P

  2. Not to advertise other companies but Eleven2.com's blog is amazing IMO and it would be good if you guys could post random programs that web masters could use and talk about them, and a lot of what's going on with HawkHost!

  3. OK, so even less than industry standards... Shared Hosting Plus.

It's shared hosting on steroids! It's for people that have need more requirements than what basic shared hosting offers but they aren't ready to upgrade to a VPS yet... Basically in-between.

(correct me if i'm wrong HawkHost) :)

  4. We do - we also immediately update upon any security releases. If there is a major change we'll wait a couple of weeks before mass updating our servers to ensure reliability.

I'm glad, a lot of hosting providers will update the same day and make all of their clients experience issues and it's not fun!

  5. Whoops, misread. Sometimes I see only what I want to see :P -- I suppose this is something we could consider, but we learned our lesson putting "resellers" (I use that term loosely in this case) on the same machines as non "resellers" years ago and won't be going back. So we'd need additional hardware, and we'd have to charge a good amount of money to make it a service worth offering. Additionally it would require different configurations than the ones we're using to offer the kind of space/bandwidth a reseller would need on these hardware configs. So as of right now, not something we can do unfortunately. In the future? It's on the table.

Oh okay, I see what you're saying. Like basically it'd be smarter for them just too buy a VPS I'm guessing is what you're saying? :)

  6. What you'd pay us for a WHMCS license is the exact same you'd pay going through WHMCS directly, so we always suggest users go directly through them for licenses. Avoids having a middle man that way. I've thought about adding that option into these plans, but in our experience most people who need WHMCS go with reseller plans anyway, not shared/semi-dedicated.

No... WHM, like being a semi-dedicated reseller so they can have more resources not WHMCS...

  7. Yes, WordPress supports being installed in a subdirectory but looking like being in the main directory. I do that regularly on my WordPress sites. (redirects are not required.)

Full instructions are in the WordPress codex: http://codex.wordpre...s_Own_Directory. See the section "Using a pre-existing subdirectory install" for your situation where WordPress is already installed in its own directory.

The OP asked if they could re-direct it though, they don't want it in the root directory.

  8. I'm not a staff member of HawkHost so i'm not going to speak on their behalf, however I thought I would let you know that their billing team isn't usually on this late so they're not going to reply fast but when it's normal business hours they will get back with you. From my prior experience in owning web hosting companies usually when orders don't auto setup it's because of fraud prevention; Hawk Host is always very fast in resolving these cases so just sit tight and I hope you enjoy your experience with Hawk Host! :)

  9. Fowler, I hear you loud and clear and you make some great points, some I had never considered. If I'm not mistaken forumpromotion is your site (based on your signature) so I have no doubts you know what you're talking about here and have much more experience than myself on this front.

I've got a lot of things to think about based on this and some ideas in the pipeline already so I'll be revisiting this thread as time goes on to make sure I don't stray too far from your feedback. I have a sneaking suspicion that as we continue to grow the forum will naturally become more popular so an answer may fall into my lap (for lack of better term), but in the mean time I want to model any changes off this feedback.

    Thank you once again :D

Thanks for listening, it means a lot! I look forward to seeing the changes :)

  10. Hello everyone, i'm looking to build my portfolio but also give back to the HawkHost Community so I figured I would do an exclusive free website design here. However there are a couple of rules and regulations i'll list them below.

    Rules:

1.) You must be a current customer of HawkHost.com.

2.) You must agree to write a review of the services I provided you.

3.) You agree that the website design I do for you will be displayed on my portfolio.

4.) You agree to not sell/modify/redistribute the work I do for you without prior consent.

5.) You agree that I may post all progress on this design on this thread to update others on the design.

6.) Add a small image or a text link to my website (Exceptions can be made)

    What you will receive:

    1.) HTML/CSS website design

    2.) Logo (If required)

3.) Up too 3 pages coded for your convenience (EX: Homepage, About, Pricing).

Please PM me with your website and what you would want done, this ends August 13, 2012 [extended] and that's when I will pick a winner (you must reply within 48 hours if I PM you saying you are the winner, if you don't I will be forced to pick someone else). I will post all of the progress on this forum so you guys can keep updated. If this becomes a success I will continue to do free designs exclusively on the HawkHost Forums! :)

Best of luck to everyone that enters!

Please keep in mind, I will not do WordPress, any kind of e-commerce, forum software or Blesta integrations with this (if you require a integration that is not listed I will look into doing this, keep in mind everything I do for you will be free)

*I am in no way affiliated with HawkHost, INC. I am just doing this to provide HawkHost customers with a great opportunity!*

  11. I don't think the document root is going to mess with your search engine rankings, and someone with access for cPanel would always have access to your secondary domain since there wouldn't be separate cPanel accounts.

*HawkHost staff, please correct me if i'm wrong in this matter*

  12. One awesome thing about our upstream provider is we automagically can get an IP behind a network device that analyzes traffic and attempts to mitigate the "bad stuff". Each server is also on a 1G line with a 10G switch so we can also "eat" a fair amount of traffic alone.

In case you're curious it's Cisco Guard or Arbor Networks TMS - both splendid devices that work well.

That's great to know, my previous hosting provider didn't have anything like that. (well when I was under an attack they didn't at least) thanks for the info!

  13. I'm not going to answer the questions as I don't want my sites listed here quit yet, however i'm more than happy to help you and give you advice.

SEO is something that no one understands 100% how it works, most people have good idea's but there's no specific "time frame" on when your site will be indexed. Site's being indexed can take anywhere up too 3 months, but your webpage might not ever be indexed it all just depends on your competition and how unique your content is (there are more factors but these are the main two).

If you posted your URL I would be able to help you out a little more!

  14. I'm sorry if my post made HawkHost look bad, if it did I promise you it was not meant too after all I do love HawkHost!

    5) We've only given admin or moderator access to a small number of our team. We have very high standards for who can speak about our company publicly and who can reply on a public forum, so again if a user appears to wait 6+ hours for a reply to their post it's simply because they created the post during "off hours" for our admin users. This is why we rely on and always push users to our ticket system, we have people there 24/7/365.

I can totally understand this, I don't want some junky acting like they know stuff that they don't :P.

    3) I personally check the forums multiple times per day, and I know our other staff does as well. They may not be as active as myself but they're here and they help me out with answering questions outside my scope (I'm nerdy, but not that nerdy!). I could probably post more and create more threads to interact with you guys, and if that is what you want to see and think it'd help create a more vibrant community I'll make it a point to do so. We are quite active on both Facebook (https://facebook.com/hawkhost) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/hawkhost) so you can always follow us there and see more of who we are.

Yes, I would love for you guys to be more active on here. Simply put the staff here is some of the nicest people i've ever worked with and it would be nice to be able to get to know you guys on a personal level (well not really personal since thats kinda weird, but I guess be more social..?), plus if we could all ban together and post topics around here i've found with a lot of my past experiences working with hosts when you post topics when they get indexed traffic grows and then eventually bringing more web masters into signing up with HawkHost; and I want nothing more than to help you guys grow as much as I can and I also think the members here feel the same way as me.

Thanks Brian for hearing our feedback! :)
