Over the weekend, I switched my hosting from a provider using H-sphere control panel to Hawk. I found the setup and configuration to be extremely easy. I was able to get my website up and running satisfactorily.

Webmail, however is a totally seperate story. Although the setup is easy, usability is so overly complicated to the point of being worthless. Now I wish I would not have switched.

I generally have 15-20 email accounts that I would like to check quickly and frequently through webmail from several PCs and laptops both at home or at work. With H-Sphere, I could log in to each account, check the email, log out of that account and the go to the next directly from the email console. With cpanel, I have to click on more, click on webmail, look up the password and enter it, click on which email client and then log in again. Also, the cpanel email console does not remember the settings each time (ie items in list and no script).
There needs to be a way to streamly line that process otherwise this just is not going to work for what I need it to do. Even if I could get windows to remember the passwords, that would be progress. Any suggestions? This is so frustrating.

First, I am a very happy customer of Hawkhost and I have been here for the past 5 years.
 
But couple of months back, I started experiencing slower site loads and I have interacted with the support team at several ocassions.
 
Recently again, I have been experiencing slow site load on some of my accounts and I started a support ticket. I got a reply within no time and I was asked to send the trace route of my website which was experiencing problem. After I sent the traceroute, I got a reply saying that the issue was escalated to server team (on August 5th) and since then I have been waiting for a reply from the server support team.
 
I sent another email requesting a reply on the ticket on Monday and I am still waiting for a reply.
 
I am also not able to login to the support system as it keeps saying my password is incorrect, even after retrieving the password and trying again for several times.
 
I now have no clue, either what's going on with the support system or what's the reason behind the site loading issue. I simply want to learn about the issue so that I can work to avoid the same and make my sites faster.
 
I guess someone here will surely help me out.

I'm just curious what video games everyone is playing right now.

For me right now I'm working my way through Batman Arkham Asylum (awesome game) and picked up Need For Speed Shift. Both are for my 360 although I do have a ps3 as well.

As far as PC games I play a game of Quake Live once in a while but that's about it.

So how about anyone else?

I don't know what it is, but the spam I'm getting has been in overdrive the last few days.  When this same thing happened a while back, I made a concerted effort to attack the problem and it slowed down to a trickle, maybe a few a day, which I can tolerate.  But now they're coming in droves probably 30-40 a day, all of a sudden.
 
Is spam assassin not working or something?

Well, I was able to log in to horde one time where there was a drop down list in the upper right corner that had all of the various accounts list. Not sure how I did it, though. I tried again with the same log in and it was gone. This is wierd.

Hey guys, yesterday noticed I couldn't send email anymore using Thunderbird setup for IMAP, after trying on a different connection (Laptop IMAP at work) and succeeding I'm guessing my ISP decided to block something recently.  A quick check of the Xfinity/Comcast website revealed nothing helpful about what they were doing so I'm wondering if HawkHost can be more helpful.  Has Hawkhost seen Comcast do anything funny with ports lately?  Any ideas for workarounds?  Thanks!

Anyone has the same problem a well?

I am trying to understand how redirects & rewrites work considering that there are two different functions going on simultaneously.
 
1 - My original domain: this is the domain I opened a shared account with. If I set up apps in a different directory than public_html then I need to manually re-direct/re-write to that directory through .htaccess. I cannot do this through cPanel.
 
2 - Parked Domains: I can go through cPanel, which will write into the .htaccess pointing to the appropriate directory I selected in the Parked Domain page. But what will happen if I write into .htaccess directly and not go through cPanel? I am assuming that there will be a disconnect since the nameservers will be pointing to hawkhost but the local DNS would not resolve to my public_html directory since cPanel did not set it up. Therefore, it is a bad idea to write into .htaccess directly for Parked Domains, correct?
 
3 - Add-on Domains: I am forced to go through cPanel only since it does not write into .htaccess. I am guessing that cPanel adds a resolution for that domain to my public_html directory. If I try to write into .htaccess directly, again, there will be a disconnect since the nameservers will be pointing to hawkhost but the local DNS would not resolve to my public_html directory since cPanel did not set it up. Therefore, it is a bad idea to write into .htaccess directly for Add-On Domains, correct?
 
4 - Sub-Domains: same as Add-On Domains.
 
I don't quite get it why cPanel would write into .htacces for Parked, but not for Add-Ons or Subs.
 
But, more importantly, can I trust cPanel? For example, for a main domain redirect, I would have the following code:
 
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /s1/j1/
RewriteRule ^s1/j1/(.*) http://www.example1.com/$1 [R=301,L]

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(*\.example1\.*)$ [NC]

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.example1.com$

which would take care of all the nuances dealing with inproper namings, HTTP v1.0, etc,, in addition to the rewrite.
 
However, for Parked, Add-Ons and Subs, I have no clue if all these nunances are taken care of by cPanel, or do I need to add into the .htaccess file?

Some servers are working way to slow. I have 3 accounts with hawkhost. One is old one which is hosted on Falcon server and is working absolutely fine. Last week I purchased 2 more hosting accounts which were hosted on SNG002 servers. These 2 accounts were very slow and repeatedly gave error pages while trying to log onto website admin. I requested and shifted one of my account to MUSTANG server and this server is even more slow and is giving too many error pages while tring to log in or trying to edit pages.
 
 
The error I am getting is Error 103 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error.
 
 
Kindly some one from Hawkhost tell me whether it is some short term problem and when it will be resolved?

At the risk of sounding stupid, I need help configuring my e-mail for my iPhone.
 
I configured the client as a IMAP with SSL client according to the manual info from the cpanel page.
 
I can send and receive e-mails, but the mailboxes for my hawkhost accounts always show emails as unread even if I have read the emails.
 
Anyone have an idea on what I might have done wrong?

Was over at the Server and Network status board a few above here, and noticed, nothing since November 2012.  Have you guys gotten lazy posting outages?  Or has there truly been no major outage worthy of posting since Nov 2012?  Which is probably a record for any shared host...from my observation the latter might actually be the case (I haven't noticed anything).

Hi,
   I am using shared-hosting and looking for an automated sitemap generator/sumbittor. My site will contain sub-sites and add-on domains with different apps. So, plug-ins to script-based apps (such as Wordpress or PHPForum) are not the solution.
  Since shared hosting has no access to the webserver, any sitemap that is script-based (such as the Google tool) that requires access to the server will fail install.
   I don't see any such tools in cPanel, so I guess none are installed.
   Is there any consensus "out-there" as to what works that can be automated and installed in this scenario?
  Suggestions *very* much appreciated.
 
PS.: yes, I am cheap, so external, paid-for services, are a no-no due to budget reasons.

I've noticed that Hawkhost's shared servers (specifically lightning?) Have been rather sluggish lately. Why is this?  Sometimes it'll load up right away while other times it'll take a good 15-25 seconds to load up?
 
I've noticed this on my site as well as forumpromotion.net and I believe Fowler is already in contact with you guys about this issue?
 
Can anything be done to improve load speeds?  I've had quite a few issues the past month with Hawkhost and i'm quite surprised but my co-admin is insisting we move off of Hawkhost if service does not improve. I'd hate to leave Hawk because it's been the best host I've used in years and I've been with you guys since 2010 but if it's time to go then I guess I have no other option......I would like to give Hawk the benefit of the doubt though and I'm just curious if anything has changed in terms of server maintainence or if there's been any other underlying issues that can be sorted out to improve site speeds?

Was there a rollback of the lightning server or something? I lost quite a bit of content just now, a handful of forum posts and some other changes I made earlier today are all gone now out of nowhere?
