Brian got a reaction from Dilshad Raza in Shared Hosting vs Cloud Hosting? Django Support?
Hello and welcome to the forums! Our shared hosting (https://www.hawkhost.com/shared-web-hosting) is when you get access to a cPanel (our web based hosting control panel) account and it allows you to easily upload your custom site or use our 1 click installer to use WordPress, Magento, Joomla or other common software suites. The server is fully managed by our team and all you're responsible for is your own sites/emails/scripts/software. Our cloud compute plans (https://www.hawkhost.com/cloud-compute) would be your own private server environment and you'd be responsible for the management/configuration of the entire server. We recommend shared hosting for most users but you can always upgrade to a compute in the future if your needs change!

Cloudflare or any other CDN can definitely help reduce latency and improve performance for visitors who are physically further away from where your site is hosted with us (you can choose your hosting location during signup). Cloudflare and other CDNs will offer you the ability to cache your static content (images, text, etc.) so it's served from the Cloudflare servers which are closer to your visitors instead of waiting for all the content to come directly from your account with us.

Django is supported on all of our hosting plans.

If you have any follow up questions let us know or feel free to email [email protected] directly for any other questions you have about our services. Thank you!

Brian got a reaction from Manny in Sending Emails With Python from my desktop
So long as your script (regardless of language) is using the correct credentials (hostname, email user, email password) to connect to our mail server there are no other special requirements from our side for you to utilize a third party app or program to send email through our servers. Unfortunately we do not have any code samples available for this.

If you continue to experience this issue I'd suggest opening a ticket through https://my.hawkhost.com/submitticket.php so our helpdesk team is able to pull up all your account details, view the script directly, and help debug any remaining issues.

You can upload files to your account using FTP (https://support.hawkhost.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/how-do-i-upload-my-files-with-ftp) or by using the File Manager interface in cPanel. We recommend using FTP though as it handles larger uploads better compared to the web based uploader through cPanel.
You can also use Softaculous in cPanel to complete a WordPress installation (https://support.hawkhost.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/wordpress-one-click-softaculous-cpanel) so you would not need to do a local install then upload to the server. Of course that's perfectly fine if you prefer to develop/sandbox locally.
Also it's worth noting while we do monitor our forums for support you will receive faster and more details replies by emailing [email protected] or opening a ticket through https://my.hawkhost.com/submitticket.php -- thank you

Brian got a reaction from Gyuri in Question regarding railgun
Latency between any two services with us (shared, SD, reseller, compute) within the same datacenter/location should be sub-1ms. Here's the output of me pinging between a semi-dedicated server and shared server to give you an idea of what you'd see. This would be the same between semi-dedicated and a compute as it's contained within the same infrastructure:

    PING nyc100.hawkhost.com (172.96.186.130) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from nyc100.hawkhost.com (172.96.186.130): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.269 ms
    64 bytes from nyc100.hawkhost.com (172.96.186.130): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.298 ms
    64 bytes from nyc100.hawkhost.com (172.96.186.130): icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.246 ms

Brian got a reaction from Ozgeek in SNG119 Massive load - recurrent problem
    Hello,
I apologize for the issues you've seen on this server. Two days ago we did see a big load spike on the server which was resolved with a reboot. We believe that was a kernel bug as the problem has not recurred since.
The downtime you saw yesterday was due to maintenance that was believed to have absolutely no service impact but a fault in a device caused it to have an impact. As to your questions:
    1) We have both internal and external monitoring on all servers. This notifies us if a server sees a spike in CPU usage for example or other resources, and also if a server goes completely offline.
    2) The status page is used for extended or large outages. We would not post a notice though if just a single server is down or showing high load. Yesterday for example during the Singapore outage we did have a notice up.
    3) Mentioned above but you saw two separate issues, one from the kernel bug and then the other from the maintenance.
It's worth noting we did bring additional servers online to help manage some other load spikes we saw in the Singapore cloud, so there is quite a bit more available CPU and RAM now. At this point you should be seeing the performance you've come to expect from that plan.
Sorry again for the troubles and I appreciate your patience throughout all this.

Brian got a reaction from rosemartine in why my domain always Pending Transfer
Once approved domain transfers take 5 days to complete per ICANN regulations. If a transfer is pending for longer than that it means there is likely a pending formality preventing the transfer. If this is still an active issue please submit a ticket (http://my.hawkhost.com/submitticket.php) so our team can pull up your account and investigate.

Brian got a reaction from Fractoggen in WHY IS MY ACCOUNT STILL PENDING
Thanks for signing up with us! Account approval is not instant so there may be a delay up to 20 minutes after payment before your order is setup. If the account still isn't setup at that point it likely did not pass our fraud check and a ticket would have been opened on your account by our billing team. If you can please let me know your order or invoice # I can check the status of your order, feel free to PM me those details. Thanks!

Hello! I wasn't sure if you were referring to responsive web design or actual speed / performance so here's one for each:
Make sure your site is mobile friendly and see a screenshot: https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly
Test your sites speed / response time from various locations and receive a detailed report on what to improve: https://tools.pingdom.com
There are definitely other tools out there for this but I'd start with those. Good luck!

The server list section of the forums is no longer maintained and hasn't been for years (we should probably remove it). We used that years and years ago when we were a much smaller company and only had a few servers to manage, however as we've grown it's no longer practical to maintain a forum for each server.
We have a status page at http://hawkhoststatus.com/ which we use for any maintenance windows, extended outages, etc.

Brian got a reaction from THE.H in Business Email - Google Suit?
Hello! All of our hosting plans do include email so you can setup [email protected] email accounts through your existing hosting plan. We also offer SpamExperts filtering for free on both incoming and outgoing emails so you'll be protected from spam, UCE, malware, etc. from hitting your inbox.
Now if you prefer to continue using the Gmail interface it is also possible to associate your email address(es) that's hosted through us to your Gmail account. You can do that by logging into Gmail and then go to "Settings => Forwarding and POP/IMAP". This would be done once you create your email address with us in cPanel as you'll need your server name, password, and other settings.
Lastly if you did choose to host your email through GSuite you can modify your domains MX records (assuming we're hosting your DNS) through cPanel using the 'Zone Editor' interface.

Thanks for your suggestion! We've often considered opening a location in India and we've had discussions on this as recently as the past few months, so it's definitely something we've looked into! At the moment I'm afraid we don't have any immediate plans to open up a location in India however it would absolutely be on our short list for our next expansion

    Hi there!
Our resource limits for the semi-dedicated plans look to be higher than the 'Deluxe' plan based on that chart you linked to. Our semi-dedicated plans offer:
    2 CPUs
    2GB Memory/RAM
    10Mb/s I/O
    50 Concurrent MySQL connections
    20 entry processes

If your site is running without issues on their Deluxe plan I see no reason it wouldn't be fine on our semi-dedicated plans

Outside of our own KB and what you can find on Google there is the official cPanel/WHM documentation:
    Guide to Reseller Accounts
How to create a cPanel account from WHM
Creating a hosting account package (disk space, bandwidth, etc)
    Editing an accounts DNS Zone
As a reseller those will be the most frequent tasks you're likely to perform. Once you become comfortable with creating cPanel accounts from WHM the rest of the options became more familiar and easier to use. Past the initial learning curve you'll find most tasks become second nature as you use the WHM interface.
As you're also aware our support team is available 24/7/365 so if you have any other questions that can't be answered by documentation you can always ask us directly for help and guidance.
