For the last 2 days my accounts on SNG119 (reseller) have been going down in association with a massive server load and memory usage. At no stage has the server status page acknowledged an issue.

The first time I got a message that they had recovered without intervention (FSN-257-26805 ) - which did not explain the issue or the fact that no one appeared to notice before I notified them (Automatic monitoring?)

The next time - after almost 4 hours - described by support as "brief"! (SKY-864-65269) - an "issue" was "fixed" - but the problem persists. Again no explanation. It is shared hosting so I assume someone's account was using massive resources or similar?

	Couple of points/questions:

Do you have an automated monitoring system to keep an eye on the servers or do you rely on clients telling support what's going on?

Is the status page in any way relevant/accurate? It still shows that there were no issues (which there obviously were/are).

It would be reassuring to be told what the issue was and what steps had been taken to mitigate further problems.

Can someone please look into this? It is very disconcerting to be fed standard lines with no explanations and a dud server status page.

	Thanks

EDIT: After recieving 5 star support ALL DAY long, with response times of no longer than 15 minutes per reply, I had to change this title to make it honest and accurate. HawkHost live support ROCKS, but a small critique NOT of the people working support who are awesome, if you are new-ish to reseller accounts at the moment there seems to be an absence of a user's guide or a get started guide, like a few other places have--however, the IRL support is awesome, and the resources of the hosting itself are rock solid and fast, so you may feel lost but support is there to help and the tech you are buying is top of the line.

So i joined, and this is my first reseller account, and based on performance and reviews I had an easy time picking HH, and was really excited.....but then i had to install my SSL certificate (i paid for it not the free one) and the email they sent doesn't say that it links to an active page, and then you have to read three other articles to get the SSL info, but the articles are for older versions of cpanel (the pics don' match ) and the 'articles' don't tell you how to fill out the forms, like what server do I pick, do i put my billing adress, do i put the servers address, do i put my website address...do i have to specify a domain...what if i don't have a company...and eventually after a few hours i try a few things and end up with an error message and have to file a support ticket (which I did, do they take a long time to resolve) and i feel like I went through a kafka novel, as the articles really don't work with each other...

so I'm worried...i have 3 domains already waiting to propagatge (from name cheap) but is support always a process of throwing a dart into the 'knowedge base" and hoping you get a good article? I was really suprised that HH didn't have a user's manual or guide or at least an introduction to our cpanel or intro to reselling account, as I've head so much about the great service here...perhaps one already needs to be an expert at these things to be HH member? Honestly, please answer honestly, is HH not a good place for newbs?

I have searched all through the forums here, but can't seem to find a solid answer to several questions I had.

I'll try to explain my questions with the following scenario:

Say that I have 2 hosting accounts - account 1 is semi-dedicated and account 2 is a reseller account

My main domain (xdomain.com) is hosted on account 1 and is a fairly resource-intensive site.

I decide that I want account 2 (reseller) to be hosted under the subdomain of my main domain as server1.xdomain.com

Some time later I have 50 clients hosted on account 2. Each client is hosted in the format of client1.xdomain.com, client2.xdomain.com, etc. down to client50.xdomain.com (assuming they all own their own domain names).

My first question is would it matter or be better to have the hosted reseller accounts as subfolders such as server1.xdomain.com/client1, server1.xdomain.com/client2, etc. or in the subdomain format.

Secondly, will having all of these subdomains or subfolders hosted on account 2 affect any kind of speed or performance to my main website on account 1 or the clients accounts on account 2? Overall, is it best when setting up a clients account to have it as a subdomain and set up the DNS for their domain?

Not sure if that really made any sense, but I didn't know how else to explain it.

Thanks!

Server OS on Jupiter?

Hi,

This minimizes site "maintenance" time.

cPanel makes it easy to backup, but for the restore piece I extract the public_html directory and upload just those files. I've had problems restoring a cPanel backup to a new domain - Extracting just the public_html piece works best for me. Still, 500M sites with thousand of files can take a long time to restore.

With SSH, there were options to upload a tarball and extract it, or just rsync the public_html directories back and forth. Without SSH, the only option I'm aware of is painfully slow Filezilla uploads of thousands of files.

I'm aware Hawkhost offers SSH upon request, but I'd be requesting it pretty much on a weekly basis for temporary domains and that just seems like more hassle to me and Hawkhost staff than it's worth.

So I'm curious if I'm missing something? Is there an faster way to port a cPanel site from one domain to a temporary domain and then back to its original location than my multi-thousand file uploads?

skyline/problems with sending e-mails

On April 2, I opened a ticket informing them that the server "skyline.arandomserver.com" have problems with sending e-mails (Please see the Ticket: #VEM-163-18641).

I have had a basic reseller plan for two years and couldn't be more pleased with the hosting HH provides!! Over the last year I've seen a significant increase in the frequency of unauthorized login attempts on five WP sites. The majority of hack attempts are coming from Turkey. Different IPs are being used so the cpanel's IP Manager is always one step behind. The WP sites all use a variety of WP security plugins and security tips but I'd like another layer of protection.

It appears Cloud Flare has, among other features, the ability to block IPs from an entire country or region. So my question is, is Cloud Flare avalible for sites on reseller accounts? I have not seen the Cloud Flare icon in any control panel and could not determine from your website's wording if a reseller account on a shared server (Dallas) is included in "the service is offered free for our shared hosting plans.".

Thanks again for your time and providing such a quality hosting service!

I'm sharing my experiences in hope that it will help another HawkHost user and save them a lot of time and worry.

I have had 4 different Joomla 1.5 sites attacked since January, all with variations of the same hack.

According the the Joomla community there has been a spike in these 'Hmei7' attacks since January. I found some info here that might be helpful to others with the same problem:

There is info here on how to start the clean up:

http://www.joshpate.com/2013/01/how-to-fix-hacked-by-hmei7-on-joomla-web-site/

http://blog.cripperz.sg/2013/01/12/how-to-fix-hacked-by-hmei7%E2%80%B3-on-joomla-web-site/

Also, once it is cleared up and Joomla updated to 1.5.26 (for those running 1.5) there are three extensions that are useful and cost effective:

JHackGuard (free): protects against common hack attempts.
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/access-a-security/site-security/site-protection/13233

AdminToolsPro (small subscription required): adds a firewall and automatically blocks IPs etc.
https://www.akeebabackup.com/products/admin-tools.html

JSecure Lite (free): changes the default Admin login page to something of your choice:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/access-a-security/site-security/login-protection/23080

The last one is particularly useful as after installing AdminToolsPro and setting it up to notify me with failed Admin logins I could see that some sites were getting hammered with password guessing scripts. This dealt with that problem immediately.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks.
